How is the Performance Ratio (PR) of my PV site calculated? (2.0)

This article explains where irradiance data is used, how the Performance Ratio (PR) of your PV site is calculated and how to add an irradiance sensor.

Description Calculation

Performance Ratio is used as a measure of the quality of a solar plant, independent of weather conditions.

The Performance Ratio can only be calculated if irradiance data is available.

PR = AC yield / (Installed capacity / 1000 * Reference irradiance)

Reference irradiance = the daily average irradiance of the reference sensor

How to add a sensor

  1. Log in with your Solytic account.
  2. Select the site you want to add the reference sensor to.
  3. Navigate to Site > Configuration > Overview
  4. Click the last option in the second column to open the menu and select the reference sensor you'd like to use
  5. Confirm your selection by clicking the "Update" button in the bottom right corner

If you select a satellite device as reference sensor, it can happen that a PR of more than 100% is displayed. This is because the daily average of the satellite data is used for the calculation. In this case, there may be stronger inaccuracies compared to a locally installed sensor. A PR of more than 100% can also occur if a locally installed sensor is not calibrated or only provides inaccurate measurements.
